Google, the search giant launched the Android O Developer preview a long time back. After getting feedback from the Developer preview users, the giant has finally unveiled the name. The “O in Android O” stands for Oreo. It means that the Android Oreo is the newest Android version.

OS updates have always been a problem with most of the Android devices. While some manufacturers stick to timely updates, On the other hand, we have manufacturers who stop providing updates after some time or provide late updates.

Most of the non-geek Android users prefer updates straight from the manufacturer. A person can always get the latest version of the operating system by installing a new ROM, but that’s not what a lot of people prefer. That’s the reason why we’ve created this article. It’ll help you find out the dates of which your device will be getting an Android Oreo update. You can use the Table of contents to navigate to the brand you are looking an Android Oreo update information.

Android Oreo Update: Devices Getting the update

One thing we’ve seen most of the OEMs following is support for the device until 15-18 months. It means all the high-end or flagship devices which are still to complete 15-18 months of launch will surely get an update, until and unless the manufacturer isn’t working on the device or doesn’t want to provide an update to that particular phone.

Previously it was the Nexus devices which received an update before it came to others, but this time it is the Google Pixel smartphones which will be getting the priority over the updates. Some Nexus devices will be getting updates as quick as the Pixel devices, while some won’t get official updates from Google.

The other devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S8, Samsung Galaxy Note 8, LG G6, OnePlus 5, Motorola Z2 Force, Honor 8 Pro, etc. might get an OTA update before the end of this year. We do believe it’s very slow, but you’ll need to wait for getting an upgrade or install an Android Oreo-based custom ROM. For people who are looking for information based on OEM can always use the Index and navigate to the particular brand for more OS update information.

Verdict

The problem with Android is, it is not centralized. It means that there is no one at the Center who monitors the brands which aren’t providing timely updates. Google tried to solve this problem by public shaming the brands, but that didn’t work well, as we can still see a lot of powerful devices which are stuck with Android Lollipop and Marshmallow. Here’s the list of brands which haven’t provided timely updates, so if you are someone who wants to stay on the latest android version, then you shall avoid these brands

  • Oppo
  • Vivo
  • Gionee
  • Meizu
  • Yu

The only option left for the smartphone owners of the brands mentioned above is to either sell the device or install a custom ROM to experience the latest version. While geeks could experience the most recent android version by installing a custom ROM, the other non-tech savvy people would end up staying on the old android version till the phone dies.
